Kill Of An Ad Unit

If you have just recently started AdSense, or if you are thinking about starting to put AdSense on your website or blog then you'll probably know by now that you can have 3 ad units and 1 link unit per page. So what do you do: write an article work in three ad units and one link unit and let fly? That might not always be the wise thing to do.

Let's go back to basics and look at what is happening. When you post a web page or blog there will be AdSense of varying value that can be placed on your page. Now Google will always display the most valuable ads because like you they want to make the maximium amount of cash for themselves.

With the maximium of three ad units yes you probably will get the more expensive ads but, and this is important, you will also receive ads from individuals and companies who have paid considerably less. If people click on the less expensive ads, you guessed it you get less!

On the other had if you have fewer ads on your page not only will it look more professional but you'll have less visitors trying to escape and more reading what you have to say and the longer they stay on the page the more likely they are to click an appropiate ad.

Want to test what I have to say. Right, here is the way. Select one of your pages that carry the maximinum of ads and also get a reasonable amount of traffic and set a test up for about two weeks. Kill the ad link and the third ad unit and if after the two weeks you’re not earning as much as before well you can always change back. If you are earning more then why not push to trial a little bit more and only have one ad on the page - a little bit more risky but it can pay big dividends.

I’m willing to bet though after you see the improved 'Click Through Rate' (CTR), page 'Effective CPM' (eCPM), and ultimately earnings for the page you’ll be changing the rest of your site to the same format.
